Lead, SD The Sanford Homestake Visitor Center provides public education and outreach for the Sanford Underground Research Laboratory as well as interpretation of the history and cultural context of Lead, Homestake, and the Black Hills. Exhibits interpret the historic and scientific background for the facility, which is located on the edge of the Open Cut in Lead, the massive surface portion of the former Homestake Gold Mine.
